Frequently Asked Questions
Do we have to share a bathroom with anyone else?
No. All of our guest rooms have private, in-room bathrooms with a shower. The Whitney Room (our Suite) has a whirlpool/jetted tub with a shower.
What kind of breakfast do you serve?
We serve a full, gourmet breakfast each morning, including local products like Harrington’s bacon and sausage, from our neighbors, just across the street. No plain pancakes here – Frank makes a variety of “gourmet pancakes” or a breakfast casserole, depending on his mood, the number of guests we’re serving and what’s in the pantry.
What if I can’t eat what you’re serving for breakfast?
We usually ask if anyone has a food allergy or dietary restriction when we send our confirmation letters. If possible, let us know before you arrive so we can be sure to stock the pantry appropriately. If you forget, Frank is really good about being able to fix something “on the fly” but it’s always helpful to have the advance notice. If you have an unusual food allergy, let us know what you usually eat, and we’ll try to work with you.
Can I bring my own food?
We prefer that guests don’t bring their own food because we don’t have extra storage. Also, your breakfast is included in our rates.
Do you allow smoking in the Inn?
No, ours is a smoke-free Inn. A $250 cleaning fee is charged for smoking in our rooms. If you wish to smoke, we ask that you do so in the parking lot, away from the Inn and any open windows.
Where do you live?
The Richmond Victorian Inn is also our home. We do not have separate living quarters, and occupy two bedrooms in this grand old Victorian. Other spaces, like the living room and dining room, are shared with our guests. During the year, we may have family visiting from out of town and you’ll get to meet them, too.
Do your guest rooms have televisions?
No. However, unlike other places you may have stayed, the parlor is a shared space. Guests are welcome to join us anytime to watch TV, sports, or a movie. You can also come in and have a conversation, read a book, play a game or work on your computer.
Do you have WiFi?
We have password-protected WiFi for our guests, available at no extra charge.
Is parking available?
We have free, off-street parking available for 5 or 6 cars, with additional parking for 3 to 4 more cars available behind the Inn.
Can I bring my pet?
Unfortunately, no. Because we try to accommodate guests with pet allergies, we keep our rooms pet-free. We have two small, very friendly dogs of our own, Harry and Winston, and they live in their own “gated community,” just off the kitchen when we have guests. When we don’t have guests, they come out to play, chasing each other throughout the first floor, and wrestle with each other in the living room. Cats are a definite no, but not because we don’t love them. Frank and Hilary are allergic to them. We can recommend a local doggie daycare, just a mile from the Inn – the Crate Escape. You can contact them at 802-434-6411.
Do you serve dinner?
Not on a regular basis. We have several wonderful chef-owned restaurants, within walking distance of the Inn, and many more within a 20-minute drive to either Burlington or Waterbury. We do serve special dinners by advance reservation, and our menu and other details can be found on our website.
I’m coming to visit my family or friends. Can they join me for breakfast?
Yes. Please let us know in advance if you would like to invite guests for breakfast. We need to know how many guests will be joining you and if they have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, just like the rest of our guests. Depending on the number of guests staying with us at the time, we may need to arrange a special seating time. Extra breakfasts are $15.00 per person, plus VT rooms and meals tax. Those charges are added to your room charges, unless otherwise arranged.
Do your guest rooms have air conditioning?
Yes. We install air conditioners in all of our guest rooms for the summer months. Other parts of the house are not air conditioned.
Can I bring my kids?
Children, ages 5 and up, are welcome to stay with us as long they are accompanied by a parent or other adult relative. We only have one room that can accommodate more than two people, so two rooms may be required if you are bringing more than one child. The Inn is not equipped to accommodate younger children.
How many rooms do you have?
We have five guest rooms - one on the first floor and four on the second floor.
How many people can stay at the Inn?
We can accommodate two people in most of our rooms. One room can accommodate up to three people. Due to fire regulations, we cannot allow anyone (including children) to sleep on the floor.
Do you take credit cards?
We accept VISA, MasterCard and DiscoverCard, as well as cash and travelers checks. Unfortunately, we do not accept American Express at this time.
